Purpose
The objective of the DCSA Interface Standard for the Booking process is to simplify the exchange of information between shippers and carriers for booking shipments, making the process more efficient and less prone to errors. This publication supports standardization of the fundamental information exchanged between these parties.
The standard establishes shared requirements for interoperable functionality and data exchange. Interfaces implemented by different industry participants should use the same definitions and design so that the end-user experience remains consistent without participant-specific customization. Every adopter in the ecosystem must therefore implement the standard conformantly.
Scope
| Topic | Description |
|---|---|
| Actors | The interface standard describes exchanges between any two parties. The most relevant parties in the Booking process are the Shipper or Booking Agent and the Carrier. Exchanges involving other parties, such as container depots and customs authorities, are outside this publication’s scope. |
| Cargo | Containerized cargo, including standard dry cargo, reefer cargo, and dangerous goods. |
| Modules | The complete booking lifecycle: booking request, booking update, booking confirmation, booking amendment, booking cancellation, and booking rejection. |
